The number of new Corona infections reached a new record high in Austria on Wednesday. Within one day, 14,416 new infections have been added, more than ever before since the beginning of the pandemic. That’s well above the average of 12,164 cases over the past seven days. The seven-day incidence also rose sharply to 953.2 cases per 100,000 population. The previous day it was 919.4. 41 more deaths have been reported since Tuesday.
The strongest increase was again in the province of Upper Austria, where a record 4,423 new infections and five fatalities were reported within one day. This is followed by Lower Austria with 2,294 new infections within 24 hours.
Meanwhile, 126,149 people are actively laboring from an infection, according to the Ministry of Health and Interior. That is almost 7,000 cases – exactly 6,978 – more than the day before. There has also been a critical increase in the number of infected people requiring hospital treatment. There are currently 2,723 patients with Covid-19 in hospital, 155 more than on Tuesday. 486 people now require intensive care treatment. That is 28 more in one day and 73 more in one week.
